Pallomancy, or using a Pendulum is a form of Divination. There is a lot of different names for this. Divination is a way to gain information for a question you may have. There is not one only right way for Divination, there are plenty of ways you can get your questions answered. For this guide, I chose to use a pendulum.

Okay, so first things first, you select the pendulum that you want to work with. If you feel that it is right for you, then use it. Everyone has a different pendulum, you find what feels right to you.

Mine is a sliver chain, it’s kind of short. The stone is Amethyst and it is a crystal point. I love my pendulum, it is beautiful to me and it works perfectly.

Before you begin:

  1. Relax. I need for you guys to do is relax. Find a chair or sit down on the bed. Whatever works for you. Make sure there is not a lot of noise around. It could interfere with your pendulum. You may also relax your elbow on a table if you find it more comfortable when holding the pendulum. No stress!
  2. Meditate. (Optional) I did not mediate when I did this, but for those of you who may struggle with this more, I suggest you do meditate. There is nothing wrong with meditating. I do have a guide here on how to meditate.
  3. Holding your pendulum. Make sure when you are holding the end of the chain that you are holding it with your index finger and thumb. Also, make sure the chain/string is straight.

Now, your pendulum can be guided with your own thoughts or a spirit who is working through you. It mostly is your spirit guide but it could be others such as your love ones.

The pendulum can move in different directions. It will be different directions for everyone. So if it goes counter clockwise for yes for your friend and yet you have a different movement, it does not mean you are wrong or your friend. It moves differently with people.

I also have heard that you can set the movements yourself and this is especially handy if you have more than one pendulum. I believe if you tell it, it could work. I am unsure and I have not tried this.

There are different ways your pendulum can swing:

  • Back and Forth
  • Side to Side
  • Counterclockwise
  • Clockwise
  • Stay Still

Now that you know the movements, it’s time to address your pendulum. I just saying “Pendulum, please tell me…”. You can start the question by saying these things:

  • “Pendulum, please tell me…”
  • “Spirit Guides, please tell me…”
  • “Higher Self, please tell me…”

There are more ways of introducing the question, but I think these three are pretty good.

Now that you know the basics, we can begin.

Make sure you cleanse your pendulum before you start. I bury it in sea salt because I feel more connected to it. You can bury it in the ground. Whatever you like to cleanse it with, please do so.

Hold your pendulum and make sure it is straight and not moving. If it is moving, it could give you the wrong answer when you do request for it.

Setting your motions:

  1. First we need to find the motions for your Yes, No and Maybe (Don’t know).
  2. You can start by saying “Please show me the answer for yes” or “Show me ‘Yes’.” I use the first saying and it had worked for me. You can use the second one.
  3. It will eventually start moving. If it does not move, then say “Stronger, please.” or “Louder, please.” or “Be more clear, please.” You may also repeat saying them.
  4. You may stop the pendulum and try it again. If you notice it is the same movement during those attempts then that would be your answer for yes.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 for No and Maybe (Don’t know).

Now, once you have the motions set for your answers you can ask simple questions like, “Is today Friday?” or “Is my hair brown?”. If the pendulum answers the simple questions correctly, then you can move on to bigger questions.

When asking a pendulum a question it must be:

  • Clear
  • Straight-forward
  • uncomplicated

Make sure your question is to the point. Do not ask several questions at once. You may start off with one question and do followups.

  • I heard using a pendulum can help you find lost items or work on personal issues.
  • Pendulums may not be accurate with questions about the future. For example: “Will I be rich one day?”.  Due to the fact that our decisions can make or break that future, it is possible that it may not come true at all.
  • If you notice the pendulum spinning more, then more energy was place in it.
  • If the motion is weak, remember saying, “Stronger, please.” or “Louder please.” or “Be more clear, please.” will help it.

Pendulums: A Beginners Guide

So you want to use a pendulum?

1) First, you’re gonna need one. You can buy a crystal/stone pendulum, a plum bob (used in construction) or make your own.

Basically, anything can be used to make a pendulum, but some of best, easily made pendulums are…

—a stone on a stick
—a ring on a cocktail stick
—a bead/paperclip on thread

Just remember that no matter what pendulum you use, bought or made, you must bless and/or cleanse it! You can leave it in moonlight, bathe it in running water (materials like some crystals or metal may be ruined with this) or whisper a prayer into it.

2) Once your pendulum is cleanse, you’re ready to go!

Get in a position you’re comfortable in (preferably sitting or standing), somewhere free of wind or drafts. Relax yourself and steady your pendulum so it’s still.

After a little while, it should start moving randomly or circling – this means it’s good to go!

Establish which way is yes and no by asking “What is yes/no?” For me, it’s normally side-to-side is no and up and down is yes – but yours may differ!

Pendulums can only answer yes/no questions (without additional equipment). If yours start circling or stops moving, that means there’s something wrong with the questions or an answer can’t be given at this time.

3) You’re now free to ask questions!

It’s normally best to ask some easy questions at the start or if it starts behaving weirdly. (e.g.. “Am I x years old?” or “Is my name y?”)

If it gives the wrong answers or start circling, you either need to stop and try again the next day, re-cleanse the item, or – possibly – just throw it away. =( Sometimes homemade pendulums just don’t work. (this isn’t too common, luckily!)

When your pendulum is nicely attuned to you, you can ask more complex questions!

4) Here are some slightly more advanced ideas!

Write out some cards with possible answers on them for an open question. It’s important to set them out in a semi-circle so it can swing towards the answer – and it’s clear what it is! Also, if it circles it probably means you haven’t written the answer.

Dowsing is also an easy-to-grasp use for a pendulum! The quickest way would be to ask it to point towards the item/material and follow the directions (keep asking, following, asking, etc.) When it stops moving or  circling, you’re basically on top of it.

Final Tips:

—sometimes a pendulum may actually circle to indicate yes/no. Often clockwise=yes, counter-clockwise=no.
—always still the pendulum between questions! If it’s still moving when you ask, it may not give you the right answer.
—if you feel as if you be accidentally move the pendulum, try resting your elbow on a hard, steady surface.
—divination should be used in place of making sensible decisions and witchcraft should never substitute professional medical/psychiatric care.

Crystal Pendulum
Plumb bob

Phew! Sorry this is so long but I thought I would put together all the information I have collected about magical pendulums. I am a bit new to divination myself so if anything is MAJORLY incorrect, I’d be happy to fix it!

2 things I forgot to mention is that you dont HAVE to have a stick/handle on a homemade pendulum, it’s just that some people find it helps stop them from moving it themselves. Also, if you can’t get an answer from it, try rewording the question before giving up for the day (e.g. Will I see Katie? -> Will I see Katie tomorrow?, Will me and Katie meet tomorrow?)!

There’s a caption on step 3, and sorry for my hideous handwriting, idk why i chose to handwrite it :V

pendulum board

mutant-wolf2: I made a pendulum board!

maddiviner: How would this work? What kinds of questions would you ask it?

mutant-wolf2:  Anything from basic yes/no questions to learn how your pendulum works and how you connect with it, to when an event may take place.

So far I’ve been asking it questions like, “Is my name___?” “Do I work in *certain department*?” And even, “When did B work in my department?”

I’d like to be able to ask it more romantic, twin flame questions (as I find that subject interesting). So I’d ask something like, “Will I meet my twin flame this lifetime?” “Have I met my twin flame already?” “When will I meet them?”

Anonymous asked: Is using a pendulum safe? I want to try but I don’t want to bring in unwanted spirits

awakenedvibrations answered: Hello, 🙂

Pendulums are mainly used to enhance your own intuition, it’s not about bringing wanted or unwanted spirits to you. Rather, it works with your spirit/higher self, and spirit guides.

Before using them, many people burn sage or incense to clear the energy they’re surrounded by for better results.

Here are a few articles with great information about pendulums, and the best way to use them…

Anonymous asked: How do you use pendulums? Also what are Faeries and how do they work.

liberumbrarum answered: Pendulums are very easy to use. They are my favorite form of divination.

Hold the chain of the pendulum in your dominant hand, so that it can swing freely. Keep your hand as still as possible. Some people say there are specific ways you have to hold the pendulum, but really it depends on the length of the chain/cord and what feels comfortable for you. I often wrap my chain clockwise (towards the back of my hand) around my middle finger, and hold it down with my thumb for stability, but that’s just what is comfortable for me.

You have to ground the pendulum before you can use it. Some people just put all their will into the pendulum to get it to be still. You can speak out loud to the pendulum or in your mind. I learned to ground the pendulum by putting my off-hand palm up under the point (without touching it- you should only be touching the chain/cord) to dissipate the energy and get it to stop swinging.

Once it is still, you have to ask it a yes or no question you know the answer to, to establish what the “yes” and “no” swings are for that specific pendulum and you. It varies between users and pendulums. These swings can be clockwise or counterclockwise circles, back and forth, left and right, even in diagonals. You can even just ask “What is my yes?” and “What is my no?” and this works as well.

Once you know the responses of the pendulum to your energy, you can ask it yes or no questions. Be sure to ground it/make it still between questions or it will get muddled. You can also get special mats to swing the pendulum over in order to give you more answers. I have a couple, and I’ll post some pictures later.

That’s basically it for pendulums, but as for Faeries, they’re basically just little earth spirits. Spells exist to call them to you, and supposedly they can help you with spells and rituals if they trust you.

Hope this helps you~

In this article, you will learn how you yourself can use pendulums for divination.

Pendulum Divination

Pendulum Divination, also known as radiesthesia, dowsing, rhabdomancy, or water witching, is divination by utilizing human sensitivity to the subtle energies emitted by any source living or inert. Some folks believe that their spirit guides act as the source of energy in revealing secret information. The history of this pendulum divination can be traced back over 5,000 years to the ancient Orient. The pendulum is the main instrument used for this area of divination, although wooden rods are also used. This practice became very popular in the Middle Ages and was a favored practice of divination through to the early nineteenth century. The practice lost favor after that but then there was a great renewal of interest in the twentieth century. In 1933, the British Society of Dowsers was formed.

The pendulum is a simple tool. The basic design is a weight of some sort suspended on a fine chain or a length of chain. A dowser is a person who is sensitive to hidden information and uses an indicator, like a pendulum or a rod, to intensify that sensitivity. There are a few different ways to hold your pendulum while working with it. Most dowser’s will hold the end of the chain directly between their fingers.

Just about any small weight can be used for your pendulum. Some people use a pendant necklace, or a ring on the end of a length of string. Coins, crystals, roots, or keys can also be used, as long as it is heavy enough to act as a pendulum. Quartz crystal is said to make a powerfully accurate pendulum. Some commercially produced pendulums are hollow and unscrew to give access to an inside cavity. You can place in here what is known as a “witness”- this would be a sample of what is being sought. For instance, if you were looking for water, you would put a couple of drops of water inside it. The recommended length of chain or string is approximately 20 to 30 cm.

It has been said that consistent use of your pendulum helps to forge a connection to your personal energy. It does take a bit of practice.

How to Use:
First, your pendulum should be cleansed from previous influences. This can be accomplished by either submersion into salt water, or by permeating it with the smoke of a cleansing botanical such as sage, hyssop, or sweetgrass. If you can’t find a ready to use incense, use loose incense on charcoal and smoke it well. If you use salt water, leave it submerged for 2 to 3 hours and wipe dry with a clean towel or paper towel. Hold the pendulum between both  of your hands until it is warm, to charge it with your energy.

Next, seat yourself comfortably at a table and start out with simple yes/ no questions. Fix in your mind the direction of “yes”, and the direction of “no”. Most people consider it yes when for vertical movement, and no for horizontal movement, but do what feels right to you. You can also ask the pendulum to show you “yes” and “no”. Keep in mind that you can’t demand the pendulum, you may only ask. Show appreciation for the answers it gives you.

Hold the end of your chain between the thumb and first finger- right hand if right handed; left hand if left handed- allowing the pendulum weight to be suspended about an inch above the surface of the table. Resting your elbow on the table, let the weight of your pendulum hang comfortably and ask a “yes” or “no” question. Although you attempt to keep the pendulum still, it will start to swing either vertically or horizontally. Dowsers will add other movement interpretations as they become more comfortable and use their pendulum more, such as swinging in a clockwise circle= yes, and swinging counterclockwise (or widdershins) as “no”.

Some Dowsers suggest not having your elbow on the table. I don’t recommend this as fatigue and unsteadiness may unduly influence the motion of your pendulum. It is crucial that you do not consciously try to make the pendulum swing. It should swing of it’s own accord like the planchette of a Ouija board (Talking Board) moves without being manipulated.

If you are having any trouble discerning an answer, it may be that the question asked is too ambiguous and need rephrasing. It’s also possible that the question cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. Consider the wording of the questions carefully. You do not have to speak the question out loud, just focus on it as you begin.

After you have worked with your pendulum for awhile, you might want to determine more than yes and no answers. This is where things get really interesting. A variety of things can be used in dowsing: maps, a calendar, pictures, there are even Talking Boards to use specifically in pendulum work. You can buy a Talking Board, or make one of your own by putting the letters of the alphabet in a semicircle on paper, and placing it on the table. I used a calendar to find the accurate date that my grandson would be born by laying a calendar on the table and suspending the pendulum in the center above it.  Maps can be used in the same way for a number of questions- like finding something that has been lost.

Some Suggested Uses:

Finding out the sex of a baby before it is born

Determining the date of a future event

Locating lost objects

Finding the presence of ghosts/ spirits

Confirming a change in environmental energy

Can be used as a complement aid to help in diagnosing health problems (always consult a health professional first)

Water Witching (locating under ground water for wells, etc.)

mutant-wolf2 asked: Do you have any advice for working with a pendulum? Thank you!

1sticks-and-stones0 answered: ALWAYS always always, cleanse it before use.

Make sure you direct each question to a specific entity.

Keep your mind blank, just continually repeat the question in your head, don’t try to figure out if you have a hunch or any opinion, just keep a clear mind.

Hope this helps 🙂

Pendulum Divination

What is pendulum divination?
As the name suggests, this is divining using a pendulum as a tool. You can buy a ready made pendulum, or make one yourself by tying any weighted object to the end of a string. Something like a necklace can work just fine as a pendulum, also.

How is it done?
Pendulum divination can be performed with or without a pendulum board.
To use a board, lay it on a flat surface and sit in front of it. Hold your pendulum by its chain directly over the board. When you’re ready, ask a question (out loud or in your head), and wait for the pendulum to move towards one of the phrases. This might take seconds, or minutes! There’s no way of knowing until it happens.

Starting off with a simple question before moving on to any more serious ones is a good idea- This becomes especially important when divining without a board.

This requires ‘programming’ your pendulum first. Once again, sit down holding your pendulum by the chain over a flat surface. Ask your pendulum to show you a “yes”. In time, your pendulum will begin to swing in a certain way- left to right, in a circle, up and down- Whatever direction, this means “yes”. Ask your pendulum to show you “no”. Whichever way your pendulum responds this time means “no”.

Starting off with simple questions allows you to get the feel of the pendulum, and makes sure you understand it properly. When you feel more confident, you can advance to trickier questions.
