V – The Hierophant

(5) V - The Hierophant

Wise Old Man

With an emphasis on moral strength and the decency of one’s own behavior, which must be absolute, we must never give into the temptation of becoming arrogant. He is the guardian and custodian of traditional knowledge and spiritual or religious beliefs.

Guidance, Education, Tradition, Belief

Instead of being innovative, you will need to adapt to the existing set of beliefs and systems that are already in place. You will need to do what is expected of you. He teaches that which can be learned by word and example. Too great a reverence for the past can become hostility toward all change, and then the Hierophant symbolizes an obstacle to growth.

Restrictions, Unconventional

You have a strong desire to go against the grain and break free from convention. The reversed Hierophant is about questioning tradition and asking yourself whether what you are doing is really the right thing by you. You may have been running on automatic so far and following the crowd but now you realize that perhaps things are not the way they seem and changes need to be made.
